Phil Chrinko sitting on a stool in the Twisted Traditions Brewery

At Twisted Traditions, we focus on crisp & drinkable hop-forward lager brews — with just enough of a twist to keep them interesting, but not enough to take away the essence of what makes traditional styles great. Phil’s brewing mantra amounts to ‘less is more,’ and our goal is to make the smallest amount of change to bring about our desired effect. Our beers aim to please, and in the interest of drinkability will typically have an low bitterness factor that is easy on the palate and an ABV% that makes the choice to grab a second brew an easy one. Dry hopping is a technique that allows hop flavours to flourish without as much of the token bitterness that comes along with traditional hopping. For these reasons you will find most of our recipes include multiple dry-hop additions.

Twisted Traditions started as the passion project of one Phil Chrinko, a graduate of Kwantlen Polytechnic University’s award-winning Brewing and Brewery Operations program. Emailing or messaging any social media will get you in touch with Phil, as the day-to-day operations are largely a one-human show. That being said, without the support of many good friends (and a special shout out to his amazing wife, Amanda) this thing wouldn’t have gotten off the ground!

At this time, Twisted Traditions is not a traditional brick and mortar brewery. Our recipes are developed by Phil and then perfected and brewed by him and the brewmasters at our partner breweries in and around the city of Vancouver, BC.

Noble Libation

-Dry Hopped Italian Pilsner-

Noble Libation Italian Pilsner Beer Can

Noble Libation is an approachable, new-age Italian Pilsner made to be enjoyed by anyone. We’ve blended new and old world elements in both the hop combination and the complex Pilsner malt base in order to showcase the noble hops’ famous floral, citrus, and lightly spicy flavours.

This beer was made to provide a bit more of a hop-forward alternative to most of the lagers on the market. If you are looking for something crispier and more sessionable than an IPA but still want that pizzazz that multiple dry-hop additions can bring - this could be your fridge’s new best friend.

Subtropic Equation

-Tropical New Zealand Pilsner-

Subtropic Equation Tropical New Zealand Pilsner Beer Can

Subtropic Equation is bright, citrusy New Zealand style Pilsner that showcases the power of tropical thiols. Through the use of mash-hopping and Phantasm (derived from white wine grape skins) additions, we unlocked the yeast's innate thiolizing abilities to compliment the bright tropical aromas of Nelson Sauvin and Riwaka hops. Using a similar method to vintners coaxing tropical notes out of their bright white wines, this beer has a complex aromatic profile, but is pleasingly simple on the palate.

Regal Revelation

-Bohemian Amber Lager-

Regal Revelation

Regal Revelation is our take on a Czech Polotmavý Pivo, or half-dark lager. Richer, darker additions were added to the grain bill complement a mix of Canadian and Bohemian Pilsner malts, providing a robust amber backbone for a generous dry-hopping of Czech Saaz.

Expect a flavourful, malt-forward beer with a spicy and floral hop presence to keep things in balance

Brisk Rendition

-Cold IPA-

Brisk Rendition is our take on a ‘Cold IPA’. An IPA in name only, this very hoppy lager boasts loads of flavour similar to other IPA styles but on a lighter, more sessionable lager base.

In Brisk Rendition, we combined some classic West Coast hops with a newer varietal. The combo presents the crisp piney bitterness attributed to West Coast styles along with a healthy dose of zesty citrus peel and sweet mandarin notes.
